How do I recognize asbestos?
In the past asbestos-containing materials have been widely used in buildings and houses.
Later on it became known that asbestos could entail major risks to public health, such as lung cancer.
Worldwide many types are used: white asbestos (chrysotile), blue asbestos (crocidolite) and brown asbestos (amosite). The mineral is still mined and is used commonly throughout the world. In certain countries, including Europe, the use of asbestos is strictly prohibited. For more information about asbestos and other hazardous materials, click on asbestos.
Our main Laboratory focus is on hazardous fibers such as asbestos and ceramic fibers.
Asbestos still occurs in many applications. More than 3,500 asbestos applications are known and are found by asbestos surveys.
Recognizing asbestos fibers is not possible with the bare eye. Applications and materials may, due to knowledge and experience, be recognized and labeled as asbestos suspicious. In the laboratory will be determined if the material contains asbestos by using a microscope.
